ACERIA FRAXINIVORA
Fig 1
DESCRIPTION: These rusty brown cauliflower-like growths, that can be clustered in tight groups, are caused by a mite which attacks flower clusters immediately after opening. The galls start green and turn brown with age and are easily spotted in the autumnal months after leaf fall. The mites overwinter in the galls or in the crevices of bark. DISTRIBUTION: Frequent and best found from late summer onwards. HABITAT: Found on the keys of Ash trees and less often on leaves and twigs.
